Missing In Action

by Robert Burkholder

I am an American, missing in action.
Remember me.
I am your brother, I am your sister
I am your son, I am your daughter
Though maybe a stranger,
I am your American neighbor.
Remember me.

Since the beginning I have stood between you and
The face of evil, I volunteered and I was drafted.
I answered the call to do my part on our behalf.
Never forget.
All across Europe, North Africa and the Pacific Isles
My remains remain.
In dense forests of Korea
And in the jungles of Vietnam I rest.
Remember me.

My shallow grave line the shores
Throughout the world.
Lety my spirit rise up from the land
And the deep abyss of all the 7 seas
With one simple gesture.
Remembering me.
